City of Redmond Hires New Fire Chief

Tommy Smith, previous Colorado Springs Interim Fire Chief, accepted the position of Fire Chief for the City of Redmond/King County Fire District 34.  Chief Smith was confirmed as Redmond’s new fire chief on September 3, 2013 at the council meeting.

Chief Smith began his fire service career in 1991 with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. He served in many positions during his career including firefighter, paramedic, lieutenant, captain, battalion chief, deputy chief and interim chief.

Mayor Marchione is quoted as saying, “The City of Redmond is very pleased to hire Chief Tommy Smith. He will be an important contributor to my Directors’ Team. Chief Smith’s extensive experience at every level of the fire department made him an attractive candidate. Our interview and background research demonstrated that Chief Smith exemplifies our City values of Accountability, Integrity and Customer Service. The members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department spoke highly of Chief Smith’s leadership skills, particularly during the Waldo Canyon Fire. His combination of experience, values and leadership make him the ideal person to serve as Redmond’s next Fire Chief.”
